Curriculum Opportunities

We pride ourselves on a wide range of curriculum opportunites for our students

It’s not the curriculum that we offer that sets us apart, it’s the manner in which it’s delivered

Learning at St Bede’s Primary School has been designed to encompass the education and wellbeing of our students. These crucial early years of education are a very special time for children, their parents and their teachers.

All students study the core subjects of Mathematics, English, Science, History, Geography and Digital Technologies as outlined in the Australian Curriculum. Our students work with specialist teachers for Music, French and STEM.

We assist and encourage our students on their journey towards becoming independent readers and writers. Most of the school day is dedicated to cementing the children’s understanding of literacy and mathematical concepts, so that they can build upon this knowledge in their future years of schooling. Teachers support student engagement through varied hands-on experiences, focused teaching times and other experiences.

As educators, we understand that students work at their own ability level and experience success at different rates and times, and our staff provide learning experiences which support and extend individual needs.

Our aim is to provide an environment where strong conceptual foundations are laid by each individual student, so that future success in life-long learning can transpire.

Literacy

We believe students become literate as they develop the skills and knowledge to interpret and use language confidently. This enhances learning and effective participation in society. Students have opportunities for listening to, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating oral, print, visual and digital texts.

Numeracy

Numeracy involves students recognising and understanding the role of mathematics in the world and having the interest and capacities to use mathematical knowledge and skills for real life applications.

Religious Education

Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 are given opportunities to gain an understanding and appreciation of the Christian faith through lessons held during the week. Bible reading and related activities help students to focus on a Christian world view, helping them to make meaning in their lives and learn of God’s love for them.

Student Wellbeing

St Bede’s Primary School has an extensive Pastoral Care program for our students by showing support, behaviour management strategies and counselling to students where required. We aim to assist students to make positive choices and take ownership of their actions and behaviours.

STEM

STEM education gives students the ability to exercise their curiosity and creativity as well as develop their problem solving skills. It’s a very hands on learning experience and allows students to think about the world we live in.

Languages (French)

Learning another language from a young age is hugely beneficial in helping young minds develop agility and capacity for learning in general.

Music

St Bede’s Primary School values the Arts and have great opportunities in the area of music. Students demonstrate their creativity in many ways. All classes experience music lessons on a fortnightly basis. Students can join a lunch time choir or have a singalong.

Libraries / Digital Technologies

St Bede’s Primary School benefits from a modern library and multifunctional resource centre situated in the centre of the school.

It is an inviting light-filled space where students not only read, browse and borrow books but it is also used for playing board games and doing puzzles, building lego or drawing pictures.

Sport

We believe it’s important for young children to develop their physical abilities and mindsets early in life, as well as an appreciation of the joys of sport. During Physical Education lessons, students are introduced to a range of individual and team sports that are appropriate for their age. Through PE, students will develop the knowledge, skills, understanding and motivation required to seek health and physical competence through involvement in activity.

The Arts

In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, music and visual arts where they learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform.
